Designed by famed architect Morris Lapidus, the building’s curving façade coated in sea foam-colored brick was an extreme contrast to the somber hues and straight lines of the surrounding skyscrapers. During the next two decades, the bright colors were traded in for muted tones and the name was changed to Loews New York Hotel. But one thing remained the same: The hotel’s popularity with people seeking a prime Manhattan location as a base for their city travels. Located in the heart of Manhattan at Lexington Avenue and 51st Street, The Metropolitan Hotel is just a short ride from all three major metropolitan area airports as well as Grand Central Station, just nine blocks away. Today, the original mid century modernist glory of the hotel has been restored and refined with 21st century amenities. We called the process a Metro-morphosis.
