Located on Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean coast, Tortuguero is one of the country’s most popular ecotourism destinations. Tortuguero National Park, known as “Costa Rica’s Amazon” is comprised of a series of lagoons, rivers and canals. The park is home to a great variety of wildlife, from monkeys, birds and sloths in the trees above to manatees and crocodiles in the waters below. Between the months of July and October, you won’t want to miss the nesting of several endangered species of marine turtles, including the Giant Leatherback, the Loggerhead, the Hawksbill Turtle and the Green Sea Turtle, along the area’s famous beaches.
